Larian Studios has been on a victory lap in these past two months, winning Game of the Year at different award shows such as the Golden Joystick and The Game Awards for their incredible achievement in Baldur's Gate 3. The game was released with critical acclaim by every major publication, and the developers at Larian have not stopped updating the game with new fixes, patches, and content, such as the recently-added epilogues.
It doesn't seem like they are going to let go of the gas any time soon, as in a recent developer Q&A, Writing Director Adam Smith has shared some interesting information about the future of the game, including his thoughts on new races and potential expansions. Here is everything you need to know about the future of Baldur's Gate 3.

Baldur's Gate 3 Writing Director On New Races
Writing Director Adam Smith recently appeared on the Xbox On show to answer questions after the game was announced to be available on the console at The Game Awards. In this interview, Adam was asked about the potential for new races to be added to the game. His response to the question was:
''We don't have specific plans for new races at the moment, but we're not saying no.''
He also continued, saying that the game is not going to stop being updated in the future, and patches similar in scope to the recent Patch 5 will always be free. For the full interview with Adam Smith, you can go here.

Baldur's Gate 3 Future Content
In the same interview by Xbox On, Adam Smith also discussed future plans for Baldur's Gate 3. He reiterated that all hotfixes and patches will remain free for the community, and while he couldn't talk about any specific future content being added to the game, he used the word 'expansions' during his talk. Here is what he said:
Currently I can't talk about expansion plans, we're very much thinking about our next things, but nothing to announce just yet.

Judging from this answer, even though an expansion or DLC for the game might not be currently in development, it is definitely a talking point at Larian Studios. Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the rare cases where players wouldn't mind spending some money on extra content, as the game was so dense with quality content at launch.
That is everything you need to know about the future plans for races and expansion for Baldur's Gate 3. While we didn't get any certainties, this interview did show us that Larian Studios might be interested in breaking their habit of not releasing any DLC for their games.
