Larian Studios released the ninth hotfix for Baldur’s Gate 3 on October 6, focusing on bug fixes. However, this time, they've added a feature that allows players to customize the appearance of hirelings, similar to how you can customize your main character using the magic mirror.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, hirelings are recruitable characters who don't have specific quests or interactions like companions such as Astarion and Shadowheart.
Customizing your hirelings' appearance has certain restrictions, just like personal character customization. Nevertheless, Larian Studios aims to give players the freedom to create their ideal party with this small yet significant change. Additionally, the Magic Mirror can now be used to change your character's name, which is helpful if you made a typo during character creation.
While the ability to change character appearances was not available when Baldur’s Gate 3 initially launched in August, Larian introduced this quality-of-life feature in Patch 3 by including a Magic Mirror in the camp. Although mods might affect the Magic Mirror, the issue is easily rectified.
With this update, Larian Studios has addressed one aspect of character customization. However, players hope for future in-game options to change the appearance of companions as well, instead of relying on mods.
Aside from the hireling customization feature, Hotfix 9 primarily focuses on bug fixes, including addressing crashes on PC and PlayStation 5. For a comprehensive list of all the fixes and changes, refer to the official patch notes.
