As one of the year's most celebrated games, Baldur's Gate 3 has earned a remarkable Metacritic score, boasting a 96 alongside The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's definitely going to be in the running for game of the year. Xbox enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting to join the Baldur's Gate 3 adventure, as the game faced technical challenges on the Xbox Series S, which couldn't support split-screen co-op. This feature was vital for the game's Xbox release.

Following its successful launch on PC and PS5, Larian Studios embarked on a collaboration with Xbox to bring this acclaimed RPG to the less powerful Series S, preserving all its key elements. Despite their diligent efforts, it proved too complex to achieve. Nevertheless, in late August, Larian committed to launching Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series X and Series S by year-end, even if it meant sacrificing split-screen co-op on Series S.
Now, with September and most of October having come and gone, Xbox fans are still awaiting their turn to experience the rich fantasy world of Baldur's Gate 3. Responding to a concerned Xbox fan on Twitter, Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios, assured that the studio remains confident about its plan to deliver Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox before 2023 concludes.

While Larian Studios has been unwavering in its commitment to bring Baldur's Gate 3 to Xbox this year, the specific release date remains shrouded in mystery. Given the limited time remaining in October and other blockbuster game releases like Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Super Mario Wonder capturing the gaming world's attention, it's unlikely the game will make it by the end of October. However, November and December tend to see fewer major AAA releases, presenting an opportunity for Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox debut.
