Diablo 4 has introduced a lot of changes to the Necromancer class in Season 4. They made it so minions are a lot more viable and added some great options for other builds too. If you’re interested in the class and maybe want to main it this season, we’ll give you some tips about mistakes you should avoid.

Damage Reduction as a Necromancer

Damage reduction is one of the most important stats in Diablo 4, especially when it comes to the endgame. It’s crucial for you to be able to survive in order to clear all of the hardest content.

Something that is often overlooked is putting more points into Decrepify. Maxing this skill out gives you a total of 24% damage reduction from all cursed enemies compared to the usual 20%.

This is equal to taking the Death’s Embrace passive but without having to stand close to an enemy to get the damage reduction. On your helmet, you can get up to three more ranks of Decrepify and gain even more defenses.

The Aspect of Hardened Bones is another great alternative for bolstering your defenses. The Aspect provides up to a 25% damage reduction to you and your minions and can be used for any build.

Using the Darkness Glyph in your Paragon will give you up to 10% reduced damage taken for 5 seconds when you or your minions deal shadow damage to enemies. That counts with your shadow mages, for example.

These are some of the best options you have for defenses on Necromancer and you shouldn’t underestimate their power.

Necromancer Attack Speed

Attack speed can often be overlooked on Necromancer, but it can be a key stat to completing your build. Since your minions now scale with the player’s stats, attack speed may be something you wish to have on your Necromancer.

This stat will benefit not only your minions but you too, as it provides faster casting for your spells, meaning faster blights, curses, corpse skills, and more. You can get this stat on your main weapon and accessories, as well as 5% from your Paragon in the Flesh Eater Board.

Necromancer Resistances and Gear

Capping out resistances can be a hard task at the beginning of Diablo 4, but ultimately you’ll want to do that without wasting stats on your gear for it. The ideal way is to set up your Paragon in a way that picks up a lot of resistances on your way to Glyphs and legendary nodes.

For example, on the Bone Graft Board, you can use the Corporeal Glyph, which provides a 150% increase to magic nodes, and then pick up the resistance nodes near it that instantly give you around 10% all-res. You can also do a similar thing on the Flesh Eater Board to easily cap your resistances without hindering your gear.

Necromancer Uniques and Uber Uniques

Uniques and Uber Uniques are great items that usually provide an enhancement to your play style; however, Necromancer is too reliant on the already existing passives and stats on ancient gear.

Tempering is very important for the minion build, for example, so you wouldn’t have space for unique items. The item that is most worth considering would be the Starless Skies ring, as it provides both good defensive and offensive stats. Necromancer is one of the classes that is least reliant on Unique items to function and do well.
