Dragon's Dogma 2 is just around the corner with Capcom launching the action RPG on March 22. The developers have had great success with their Character Creation tool, already praised by some people saying it was one of the greatest advertisement strategies they have seen.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of the most anticipated games of 2024 which will release on March 22, and fans can't wait to start their journey. But is the game going to hold up to people's expectations? The only way to answer that question is to figure out what those are.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Expectations

We know that Dragon's Dogma 2 is an open-world high-fantasy RPG with tons of content. From each preview we have seen, we know side quests will be everywhere. Some will only be available depending on your choices. Some will be time-sensitive. It will most likely take multiple playthroughs to experience everything.

The same applies to the vocations in the game. We know that you can switch your vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2, but to be able to do so you will need to earn points by killing monsters. We can already expect moments where we will want to know how different a situation will turn out if we play it in a different vocation.

Dragon's Dogma 2 will indeed take its lineage seriously. Developers have taken the groundwork of the first game, expanded on the successes, and taken the feedback to heart. We will see whether this new game will be Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen with a lick of paint but Capcom seems confident with their latest title.

We do not disclose sales targets for individual titles, but we have been communicating that we consider this game to be in the million-selling class.

-Capcom

It will be surprising if Dragon's Dogma 2 does not hit its expected target, considering how many fans the first game generated and how popular these kinds of RPGs are becoming due to the success of Elden Ring and FromSoftware's other titles.

Dragon's Dogma 2 seems to stay faithful to what fans love. It promises to be an action-packed story, full of choices that actually matter. Players can expect to be able to customize their character in incredible detail, enjoy innovative combat, and learn about the unique Pawn system that creates support in battles.

Some fans are disappointed that there will be no multiplayer in the game, but the Dragon's Dogma franchise has always been a single-player RPG. It would have been nice to play along with friends but it wasn't unexpected that Capcom stayed true to its prequel.

The only concern most fans have expressed is the graphics may not be what they expect from a new-generation game

The game has an uncapped framerate. We’re aiming to go at around or higher than 30 FPS. That is for consoles as well. There are some functions that you can turn on and off, but there aren’t multiple sets of options that you can change at once. But yeah, the frame rate will come uncapped for all consoles.

-Hideaki Itsuno, Director of Dragon's Dogma 2

We can only hope that motion blur or clunky performance won't be a factor that will ruin our experience with Dragon's Dogma 2.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Early Reviews

So far Dragon's Dogma 2 is setting itself up to be an amazing game. We will look at some early reviews and you can form your own opinion if this game is something you want to play.

Capcom

After 3 hours of Dragon’s Dogma 2, I’m convinced it's not just GOTY contender, it may be an all-time great.

-Alex Donaldson, VG247

Donaldson goes on to explain that even though he only played for three hours, everything about the game gave him the feeling that he was playing something special.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 really clicked with me because you need to constantly be on your toes. There are moments of downtime when you can just enjoy the vista or pose with a random Ogre you’ve defeated. But more often than not I was organically finding combat encounters and secrets that I wanted to investigate more.

-Destin Legarie, IGN

If Dragon's Dogma 2 can maintain the organic feeling of finding new experiences then its content will be more immersive and realistic in a high fantasy world.

I played a few hours of Capcom’s chaotic sequel last month and came away smitten with its mixture of epic monster battles and freeform exploration, even if I spent the entire preview getting lost amidst the wilds and throwing my enemies off cliffs. The fact I will soon take on quests and make my mark on this world that extends beyond my own random mischief has me so excited, even if I’ll be forced to play it at 30 frames per second on console.

-Jade King, thegamer

This review from King went into detail about the lack of a performance mode, stating that it isn't a big deal with a game this good.

It is possible that this game may not have the best graphics out there. We may have to deal with some motion blur, but we have to remember this is Dragon's Dogma 2. Its strengths lie in its amazing story, an immersive world, and abundance of choices that actually matter.

From everything we have seen, it's looking like this game will be one of the best action RPGs we will see anytime soon. We can only speculate on what players will think of Dragon's Dogma 2 but for now, we have high hopes.
