Dune Awakening is an open-world survival MMO based on the story of Dune and set in the unforgiving lands of Arrakis. You will encounter many challenges and foes as you strive to survive and make a name for yourself in the barren wastelands.
As you journey through endless rolling dunes searching for water and resources, you will find yourself exploring ancient underground Ecology labs and many deep canyons with hidden treasures inside dangerous caves.
Funcom is set on creating a massive sandbox survival game by emphasizing social interaction among players as they navigate the rich and treacherous planet, hoping to survive or attain glory. That said, we will be looking at all of the confirmed multiplayer features thus far.

Dune Awakening Multiplayer
One of the lead devs confirmed that Dune Awakening will have its specialized group system and a dedicated ping system to help you communicate with other players to achieve common goals.
It is also said that there will be different roles based on the abilities you decide to pick up. For instance, you could go for a healer/medic route that will help your teammates either survive difficult combat situations or get them up once they have fallen in battle.
Dune Awakening will have a so-called 'Journey' system that allows players to explore the many facets and secrets of the universe as well as a contract system that will give you tasks to complete.

Dune Awakening Multiplayer Features
Not only will the game encourage a large multiplayer scene, but you will also have separate scales based on how you would like to play Dune Awakening. You could either opt for small parties of friends to play with, or you can even join guilds/clans if you would like to further amp up your community-driven adventures.
It seems that the developers are aiming for thousands of players per server as their main goal is to further spice up the open-world aspects of the game and provide a larger sense of community and social interactions.
Given the MMO setting, Dune Awakening will also strive to provide a personal experience and many avenues for teamwork to suit the needs and wants of most players.
