Dune Awakening Leaked Gameplay and UI

Dune Awakening is set in the now extremely beloved Dune universe. It's an open-world MMO set on the desert planet of Arrakis, which we got to see in the "Dune" 1 and 2 movies. The game is being developed by Funcom, and while we still don’t know when it will be released, leaked gameplay and UI screenshots have given us another glimpse. Find out all about the screenshots and our analysis below.

Dune Awakening: Character Creation 

In these screenshots, we get a detailed picture of how character creation will work. We see the familiar sliders for a variety of facial features. In this particular case, we can see the extent of customization available for the nose, leading us to imagine the level of detail that will be possible. 

In the second screenshot, we get a glimpse of the hairstyles available in Dune Awakening. We can see a variety of different styles suitable for various hair textures. The model on screen appears to be sporting a curly mohawk style, and the details and graphics look stunning.

Dune Awakening: Gameplay and Questing

Here we can see the playable character on screen, seemingly scanning a rock with a device. This could possibly be part of a quest or a profession that your character can undertake. We also notice a lot of clean UI elements, with quest text in the upper left, health and resource bars in the lower left, and additional text and information on the right. 

This picture shows us riding a vehicle in front of a gorgeous shot of Arrakis’ desert. On the right, we see the controls for the vehicle and camera. 

Dune Awakening: Base Building

In these two screenshots, we see more details of one of the most anticipated features of Dune Awakening – base building. We covered everything we know about base building in our "Dune: Awakening - Everything You Need to Know" article, but here we see even more detail.

The system seems to let you choose from a variety of blueprints for walls, doors, structures, and special details and place them freely to build. In the second picture, we seem to get a glimpse of an already-built base that is reminiscent of Rust bases. 

Dune Awakening: Power System and Mentors

In this screenshot, we learn a lot about how the Dune Awakening power system will work. In the first picture, we see what seems to be part of the character creation process in which the player decides on the “class” that their character will be.

We see some familiar types of characters from the Dune Universe – Trooper, Swordmaster, Bene Gesserit Acolyte, and a Mentat. These will likely fulfill the roles of typical MMORPG Rangers, Warriors, Mages/Warlocks, and Priests.

Here we can see a very familiar talent tree UI. Talent trees are used in various types of character progression games and allow players to slowly unlock more and more powers as they progress down a branch.

Dune Awakening's talent trees seem to follow this pattern. The skill tree even shows us the first level of what seems to be the Bene Gesserit class.

"Battlefield Calculation" allows you to scan enemies and objects to learn more about their type and even expose traps. We believe this is what is shown in this picture, with an X-ray-like vision displaying numerous characters on screen.
