God of War Creator Fires Shots at Stellar Blade

Stellar Blade has been the center of so much drama over the last few days and its release date is still around the corner. It’s already the second most pre-ordered game on PlayStation and there is still plenty of time until April 26. The big controversy right now with Stellar Blade is that Eve is an attractive female character and some people have called Shift Up out for sexualizing women.

Most gamers can’t see what the big deal is. Many games have a sexy main character in one form or another. Could it be that the South Korean game developers have a different concept of beauty from some people in the Western World? They have created an attractive Asian female protagonist that is based on scans of a famous model in South Korea and suddenly some people have a problem with attractive characters.

It seems some people have forgotten that gamers like to play games with sexy characters. Both men and women like to play video games and want to play attractive protagonists. There shouldn't be anything wrong with that.

David Jaffe's Comment on Stellar Blade Drama

In the middle of the controversy, David Jaffe, the creator of the original trilogy of God of War, decided to weigh in on the subject. His comment blew up in his face as some people replied to his tweet, angry at what he had written. He tweeted about the rewards you get for pre-ordering the deluxe edition.

I love how the game that’s supposed to be for real men who love hot chicks and hate wokeness rewards them for pre-ordering with lots of clothes and accessories to play dress up with.

Character customization is nothing new in the world of gaming yet somehow this feature is only reaching David Jaffe now. Many people have replied to his tweet and have asked what he means by “real men”. I’m not sure if everyone else knows this but I thought it was widely known that video games aren’t just for men.

Stellar Blade is not only a game for men who love hot chicks and hate wokeness. It is an action game, set in a post-apocalyptic world, filled with alien creatures and happens to have an attractive female protagonist.

The other way of looking at this tweet could be that maybe Jaffe was intending to come to the defense of the game. This is speculation but it is possible he was suggesting that Stellar Blade isn't only for “real men” who love hot chicks and hate wokeness because it’s unlikely such a game would reward such people with clothes and accessories.

Try reading the tweet again and put as much emphasis as you can on the word “supposed”. This is the problem with random tweets that people can easily take out of context and considering we don’t know exactly what he wanted to say, it is plausible he was attempting sarcasm. If only he knew that sarcasm doesn’t always work over Twitter.

As David Jaffe is the man who brought us the original God of War trilogy which is full of sexualized characters, it is strange that he would take a shot at Stellar Blade. The fact that Eve has an attractive body is nothing compared to the sex mini-games in God of War.

There could be many ways to perceive what David Jaffe meant in his tweet. He could have been taking a shot at Stellar Blade or he could have been making a sarcastic comment towards everyone out there determined to cause a problem for Shift Up because their main character is attractive. The only person who knows the meaning behind the comment is David Jaffe himself.
