In Helldivers 2, there might be a large selection of armor that has different passive effects but some fans of the game want more of a choice. Players have asked if there would be any chance to add the transmog ability any time soon. The director of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, has recently responded.
Most modern multiplayer games have the transmog feature so players can change their look without affecting their stats. This increases the sense of customization available, but it's not always the way forward. In Helldivers 2, the idea is that you are all soldiers fighting a war for democracy. Soldiers do not choose what colors they wear; the armor is for defense, not appearances.

What Did Pilestedt Say About Transmogrify in Helldivers 2?
When Johan Pilestedt responded to gamers' requests for the transmog feature to appear in Helldivers 2, he didn't have good news for the fans.
We are not doing transmog. It doesn't make sense. Equipment looks different because it has different effects. Swapping one for the other is like having an apple that tastes like bacon or the other way around.
-Johan Pilestedt
Some fans have argued in favor of the feature, saying that the armor available isn't distinct enough for them to know what other players are running. If that is the case it won't matter if you can change your look but have the same stats. Also, players have commented that with transmog, they will be able to have the best of both worlds. They could wear their favorite armor but have the effects of the best.

It might come as a disappointment to some fans but Arrowhead seems to have no plans to work on a transmog feature anytime soon. The developers have strived to make everything as realistic as they could in the sci-fi setting. Bugs might be giant and about to conquer the galaxy but weapons fire in a realistic way. Advanced Automatons are looking to wipe out humanity but they have pragmatic weak spots.
Everything in Helldivers 2 has a function and it doesn't seem to matter to Arrowhead that you want to look good when you are covered in bug guts. There may be some compromise in the future but for now, if you want to wear a certain set of armor, you will have to accept the stats that come with it.
