The best way to increase and maintain your approval rating is by keeping a wide variety of goods available in your marketplace. Make sure your villagers have access to clothes and shoes. Maintain a wide selection of food on offer by hunting for meat and gathering berries. Grow vegetables and get some chickens for the eggs. 

All of these are ways to boost your approval and there are plenty more methods. Building a church and a tavern in Manor Lords will also go a long way but you will need to supply the latter with ale.
