Bethesda's newly released Starfield, has had fans eagerly anticipating the potential for mod support, following the studio's history of fostering creative player modifications in their previous games. Starfield Game Director Todd Howard recently discussed this much-anticipated feature in a post-launch interview, hinting that mod support could be arriving as early as next year. This news has excited fans who have been eagerly awaiting the ability to create custom planets, missions, and structures in the game.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Todd Howard shared insights into the game's development, his passion for space, the game's inspiration, and post-launch plans. Famitsu specifically inquired about the timeline for official mod support in Starfield, including the ability to craft custom missions, creatures, and planets.

Todd Howard confirmed that players will indeed have the opportunity to mod the game extensively, and he announced that official mod support is on the horizon for next year. He emphasized that the team at Bethesda Game Studios appreciates the creative possibilities that mods unlock and is committed to implementing mod support in a significant way.

Interestingly, Fallout 4, Bethesda's previous single-player RPG, introduced official mod tools six months after its initial release. However, modders had already begun experimenting with the game long before that official support arrived. A similar trend is emerging with Starfield, as modders have already produced impressive Starfield mods, including improvements to the user interface, lighting, and more.

Todd Howard's comments align with statements from Pete Hines, the head of publishing at Bethesda. Hines confirmed that while Starfield won't launch with mod support, it will be introduced at a later date. He reassured players that modding would be available on both PC and Xbox, continuing Bethesda's tradition of supporting modding on the PC platform.

The delay in implementing mod support might be attributed to the need to accommodate both Xbox and PC players. Nevertheless, given Bethesda's past success in enabling console modding through the Creation Suite, this challenge is unlikely to pose significant obstacles.

One of the key reasons Starfield has generated so much excitement is Bethesda's track record of fostering a highly moddable environment in their games. Titles like Skyrim and Fallout have seen an array of ambitious mods, including "The Forgotten Realms" and "A Tale of Two Wastelands," which expanded and enriched the gameplay experience. As Starfield prepares to join this legacy, the future of modding in the game promises to be vibrant and full of exciting possibilities.
