No Rest for the Wicked has a ton of different systems, which in one way or another are going to force you to loot certain resources, crafting materials, and gear in order to progress through the game. Even though the game is largely a soulslike ARPG, it does have an intricate town-building feature that will allow you to invest your resources into upgrading the city of Sacrament. By upgrading these buildings, you are going to create new shortcuts around the city, while also improving the capabilities of all of the different vendors that are available in the game.

At one point during the progression of your town, you are going to need a lot of Clay, which is going to be the main bottleneck when you try to get all of the vendors to Level 3. In this article, we are going to show you how and where you can find more Clay, so you can restore the city of Sacrament to its original glory!

No Rest for the Wicked: How to Get Clay

Clay is one of the most important resources in No Rest for the Wicked, as you need it in order to upgrade all of the different buildings in Sacrament to Level 2. Clay was also bugged on launch, and it had a much lower drop chance than any of the other tier 1 resources that are needed for these upgrades, which has turned it into the main bottleneck for many of the players in early access. Here are two main ways of farming clay in No Rest for the Wicked:

Dig Spots

The main way of getting more Clay in No Rest for the Wicked is by finding Dig Spots and using a shovel to unravel them. As there are different tiers of Dig Spots, we recommend playing in the Shallows, Mariner's Keep, and Orban Glades areas, as they usually have the lowest tier available and are going to have the highest chance of producing Clay. Dig Spots are most common in areas around water, and there are also a good amount of them in the higher regions of the Orban Glades. Don't forget to bring a shovel each time you leave Sacrament, which you can buy from Fillmore at his smithy. Higher tiers of shovels will allow you to dig a lot more quickly, significantly reducing the amount of time needed to clear these regions of the map.

Grinnich

The second way of getting more Clay in No Rest for the Wicked is through Grinnich, who is the general goods vendor in Sacrament. He has a random pool of loot, which can be anything from rings to crafting materials, and sometimes his inventory has between 1 and 4 Clay. Each time you upgrade Grinnich's store from the building projects menu, the general tier of his merchandise will increase, and this will result in a lower chance to sell Clay. If you have already upgraded his store, you can always create a new realm and rush to the city of Sacrament, and there is a good chance for him to offer you some Clay. This method should be viewed as a bonus, and we recommend sticking to Dig Spots as your main way of obtaining Clay.

And those are the best ways for getting more Clay in No Rest for the Wicked. Hopefully, this guide has helped you find more of this somewhat rare resource, so you can continue upgrading all of the different buildings in the city of Sacrament.
