Since its initial launch, Valorant's competitive scene has undergone substantial transformations, particularly with the introduction of the Valorant Champions Tour in 2021. Riot's vision for a thriving esports ecosystem took its first steps with this initiative.
Over time, several changes have been made, particularly at the start of the 2023 competitive season, with the establishment of three international franchised leagues and the initiation of Ascension, providing amateur teams a clear path to the pinnacle. However, not all players are content with Riot's efforts.
Amidst the community's calls for wider support for the second tier of competition, Valorant's Head of Esports, Leo Faria, has assured fans that improvements are on the horizon to enhance the competitive scene.
In a tweet on July 29th, the Head of Esports conveyed that a "slew of changes" will be implemented from the 2024 competitive season onwards, presenting teams with more opportunities to compete.
Responding to discussions about Valorant's tier 2 scene, Faria stated, "Seeing lots of discussion on VAL tier 2 today. Want to let you know that we hear you and that we have a plan! Sustainability is just one challenge. We’re implementing a slew of changes for next year, including a fully revised calendar with more opportunities for teams to compete."
He further acknowledged that the debates stem from passion and a desire to improve the Valorant Champions Tour ecosystem. The development team appreciates the community's engagement and enthusiasm, promising a comprehensive update later this month that will shed more light on the upcoming changes.
Faria clarified in another tweet that the update would be released sometime in late August, offering more details on the enhancements planned for Valorant's competitive scene. With these forthcoming changes, Valorant's esports community can anticipate an even more exciting and competitive experience in the future.
