Stardew Valley is more than just a farming simulator; it's also a game where players can find love and get married. With twelve eligible characters, each with unique personalities and preferences, there's someone for everyone in Pelican Town. In this Stardew Valley romance guide, we'll explore all the marriage candidates, their favorite gifts, and how to win their affection.

Understanding Friendship and Romance

Before diving into the world of romance, it's essential to understand how friendship works in Stardew Valley. Each villager has a friendship meter represented by ten hearts. To increase friendship, players can:

  • Talk to villagers daily
  • Give them liked or loved gifts

However, friendship can also decrease if players neglect to talk to villagers, give them disliked or hated gifts, interact with bins near them, or even shoot them with a slingshot.

For marriage candidates, the friendship meter is capped at eight hearts. To progress further, players must give them a bouquet purchased from Pierre's General Store for 300 Gold. This will change their status to "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" and allow the friendship meter to reach ten hearts.

Getting Married in Stardew Valley

Once you've reached ten hearts with your chosen partner, you'll receive a letter from the Mayor explaining that you need a Mermaid's Pendant to propose. This pendant can be purchased from the Old Mariner on the beach for 5,000 Gold, but only on rainy days and after you've upgraded your farmhouse at least once.

After giving your partner the Mermaid's Pendant, your wedding will be scheduled for three days later.
