TFT Regional Portals Will be Back for Set 10
Lead developer at Riot Games for Teamfight Tactics Mortdog recently shared that portals will be returning to the game, but in a different form. With the introduction of this new mechanic, players have found that the variety it adds to the game is bringing in more fun and enjoyable moments as you try to beat your opponents.
It is curious to see how Rioters will change the system so that the portals potentially offer more value and fluidity to the game as most players tend to gravitate towards the same portal every match. With Regional Portals heavily determining the gameplay and rules for each individul match, portals could also change the decision-making behind picking augments and your overall strategy to win.

How the Community is Reacting to Regional Portals
So far, most players are having a blast trying out different portals in order to further increase the likelihood of reaching first place. Some players state that the portals are fairly balanced, although there are some which are rarely picked whilst others seem overpowered in certain games.
Even if it's not as crazy of variance between portals, I think it's good that it stays in some form. The voting stage feels pretty cool, especially if yours gets chosen with the odds against you, and the changes from game to game aside from just what units + augments you are given can keep the game fresh. Removing them entirely would feel like a step backwards, so it's probably a good thing they're adapting it to future sets

Others wish that the new portals are not as impactful as they are currently with the gamestate favoring aggressive or unfun compositions.
I hope they don't keep the ones where it greatly favors one playstyle, like playing fast 7/8 comps or vertical comps, or ones where the optimal strat is to play reroll comps
The dev team themselves have said they don't want to introduce any mechanics that limit the amount of comps a person can play so the existence of those portals always confused me
