The End of Evangelion

The End of Evangelion serves as an alternate ending and retelling of the final two episodes of the iconic mecha anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, which originally aired in 1995-1996.

This is the official synopsis from GKIDS:

In 2015, Tokyo-3 is under attack from “Angels,” extraordinary beings that possess various special abilities. Multipurpose Humanoid Decisive Weapon, Evangelion is the only method to counter these Angels. NEON GENESIS EVANGELION: THE END OF EVANGELION is an alternative ending to the NEON GENESIS EVANGELION TV series. SEELE plans an attack on NERV after failing to create a Third Impact. Asuka returns and begins the counterattack, as new enemies descend from the heavens.

The movie provides much-needed context and action that was missing from the TV series' controversial, abstract ending episodes. Fans can expect a darker, more violent tone with disturbing content.

The film focuses on protagonist Shinji Ikari and his fellow EVA pilots as they battle invading angels bent on causing a cataclysmic "Third Impact" event. Flashbacks provide insight into the main characters.
