Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a plethora of monsters of all shapes and sizes. You can climb griffins, dragons, and stone golems or you can cut goblins to the ground like a scythe through wheat. You can see some of the most famous mythological creatures from different folklore in Dragon's Dogma 2. Whether you want to solve the Sphinx’s riddles or try and take down the legendary Minotaur, there is always something to do.
One such creature is the Dullahan. You might know it better as the headless horseman and while tales of the headless wanderer have appeared in a lot of cultures, the Dullahan is based on Irish folklore. There are no horses in Dragon’s Dogma 2 so it may not be a horseman but there is no doubt that it is headless.
You might be searching for the Dullahan to farm its bones to enhance your gear or you might be after the Before Dawn Breaks achievement. For whatever reason, you will only find them at night like most undead monsters. The headless horseman is a random encounter and can appear at any location, but there are a few places we know of that might increase your chances.

Where to Find the Dullahan in Dragon’s Dogma 2
You will easily be able to notice the Dullahan when you encounter it in Dragon's Dogma 2. It will be night as stated above and a heavy fog will roll in. The headless horseman looks like a spectral figure with a long cape and, most importantly, it holds its decapitated head in its hands. The head glows bright blue and is easy to spot.
You will find a Dullahan in Dragon’s Dogma 2 at the Illdoers' Resting Place in the middle of the Misty Marshes. This Dullahan is part of the quest Till Death Do Us Part but will respawn after an average of 7 days. You can pick up the mission by talking to Oswald in Vernworth’s Noble Quarter. He will tell you rumors about Sir Ludolph and you can then speak with Margit at the Watchhead’s Home.

Another way of finding the Dullahan is to leave Vernworth at night. Use the west gate and head northwest along the road. Fog will eventually creep up and you should be able to see the ghostly shape with a glowing head in its hands.
A third location frequented by the Dullahan is west of Waterfall Cave. You can find the cave north of the Borderwatch Outpost. You will be able to visit this location fairly early in Dragon’s Dogma 2 but we recommend waiting until you are higher level. The Dullahan is a powerful monster. Do not underestimate the headless horseman.
In the Unmoored World, there is a higher chance of finding the Dullahan because powerful monsters, especially the undead, are more common. There will be no difference between the day and night after the true ending so you might run into the headless horseman at any time.

How to Defeat the Dullahan in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The Dullahan is undead so you will need to focus on spells that deal holy damage. It has no other weaknesses and also has a high defense. Your best approach is to use magic and ranged attacks.
The headless horseman can teleport around the battle and will usually attack directly after doing so. Get ready to evade if you see it disappear. Be aware of its scream that will knock you and your Pawns to the ground.
You can immediately jump back up but if the Dullahan catches you on the ground it will suck the life out of you. The amount of health the headless horseman has lost will affect how much damage this vampiric ability will do. So if the monster is close to death, this attack could be fatal.

The Dullahan can also adopt a pink aura and chase you around. If you let it get close enough, it will drain you of your health so make sure you keep an eye out for this attack. Keep your distance and avoid close combat with the Dullahan. You can win but make sure you bring plenty of potions for your health and your stamina. You are going to need them.
You will unlock the Before Dawn Breaks achievement when you defeat your first Dullahan. There is a chance it will drop Cursed Dullahan Bones for your equipment-enhancing needs but there is no guarantee. You can always buy them from Folkes, the merchant traveling back and forth between the Ancient Battleground and Checkpoint Rest Town.
That’s everything you need to know about the horseless headless horseman. I hope this helps. Check out our guides on farming Wyrmslife Crystals or for the Phantom Oxcart, Arisen’s Shadow, and A Case of Sculptor’s Block quests.
