Similar to other gacha games, Zenless Zone Zero offers both characters and weapons that you can obtain through the game’s gacha system.
When using weapons in other games, we might expect to see different looks depending on which weapon we’ve equipped; think of Genshin Impact, for example.
However, in Zenless Zone Zero, that is not the case. W-Engines do not alter the look of a character’s weapon, but if you manage to get a character’s exclusive W-Engine, then you will also obtain their exclusive skin.
Although they are known as Exclusive Skins, these skins only change a character's hair color slightly when they are performing their EX Special Skill.
In this article, we’ll explain more about what exclusive skins are, how they are unlocked, and when you can see them.

What are Exclusive Skins?
Exclusive skins are a feature that is unlocked after you equip a character with their exclusive W-Engine. Every character in Zenless Zone Zero has an exclusive W-Engine, which, when equipped, unlocks the character’s exclusive skin.
NOTE: After unlocking a character’s exclusive skin, you can equip a W-Engine that is not their exclusive W-Engine and still have access to the exclusive skin. However, to unlock this, you must first equip a character’s exclusive W-Engine at least once.
Skin
Although exclusive skins sound cool, they are not all that special. An exclusive skin does not have a drastic change in a character’s look, and even if you equip a character with their exclusive W-Engine, you won’t immediately be able to see their exclusive skin.
That is because an exclusive skin is only visible when you use a character’s EX Special Skill. When using a character’s EX Special Skill when they have the exclusive skill unlock, you will notice that their hair changes color. Each character's hair changes in different ways, with some characters' skins being more prominent than others'.
Below you can see an example of Ellen without and with her Exclusive Skin.

As you can see in the second picture, Ellen has red highlights in her hair. This is more visible in some characters and less in others, and this is what the exclusive skins are, a slight change in a character’s hair color when using their EX skill.

How to Enable Exclusive Skins
Enabling exclusive skins is quite straightforward. You open a character’s menu, go to [Equipment], and if you have equipped that character’s exclusive W-Engine at least once, you will notice a slider that, when pressed, will move either UP or DOWN.
This slider determines whether a character’s exclusive skin is enabled or not. When the slider is in the UP position, the skin is enabled; when it’s in the DOWN position, the skin is disabled.
You can easily switch between enabled and disabled by just clicking the slider.
NOTE: You must equip a character’s exclusive W-Engine at least once before the slider becomes available.
