Think of Paths like character classes in other games. Similar to the different elements (types), each character, as well as Light Cone, in the game belongs to a specific Path. Paths determine a character's class and the Light Cones they can use. There are 18 Paths in total, but only 7 of them are playable. In this guide, we'll explore these 7 playable Paths and what makes each one special.

All Honkai Star Rail Paths
As of Version 1.5, there are only 7 playable Paths in Honkai Star Rail. Let's take a closer look at each Path and what they are good at:
Playable Paths
Hunt
- Characters following the Path of Hunt, are specialists in dealing Single Target DMG.
Abundance
- Characters following the Path of Hunt are specialists in keeping their teammates alive by restoring their HP with Heals. You can think of them as Healers/Priests in other games.
Preservation
- Characters following the Path of Preservation are great protecting their teammates by either making themselves the target of attacks or providing Shields. You can think of them as Tanks.
Harmony
- Characters following the Path of Harmony take on the role of supports in Honkai Star Rail. They help their teammates by proving various Buffs. You can think of them as Supports.
Nihility
- Characters following the Path of Nihility specialize in applying Debuffs and weaking enemies to further enhance your teammates' DMG. You can think of them as specialized Debuffers.
Destruction
- Characters following the Path of Destruction are great at dealing both Single Target and AOE DMG. They are also quite tough, making them the best tanks after the Preservation Units.
Erudition
- Characters following the Path of Erudition are masters at dishing out AOE DMG. They are a great choice when dealing with a large number of enemies.

Summary
Paths are one of the pillars of Honkai Star Rail and are definitely something that HoYoverse will expand more in the future. Even though for now we only have 7 playable paths, with the Propagation path being available in the Simulated Universe, after clearing the Swarm Disaster Expansion, we can hopefully see even more of the paths making their way into the game in the future.
